Jake Gyllenhaal

Welcome graphic
Iconic Picture Analysis: This picture perfectly captures Gyllenhall's pretty boy, relaxed demeanor

This website is dedicated to Jake Gyllenhaal and has begun construction to suffice class requirements at DePaul University.

Factoids:

1.) Gyllenhaal was first given notice for his overwhelming performance in the Universal film, OCTOBER SKY , directed by Joe Johnston.

2.) Gyllenhaal was nominated for an Independent Spirit Award for best actor in the critically acclaimed DONNIE DARKO.

3.) Gyllenhall was dating Kirsten Dunst for 2 years before splitting in the Summer of 2004.

4.) Jake was rumored to be dating Natalie Portman and Chelsea Clinton.

5.) Jake pushed the limits with his recent work on Brokeback Mountain, featuring a glympse in the life of two cowboys who fall in love in the 1950's in a Montanna setting. This movie has recieved rave reviews and is being nominated for many different types of awards which the religious right is inferiated by. Too bad for them, guess it's time to start opening the doors to another oppressed and discriminated group in the American sphere...wait, wasn't it the religious right that believed that slavery was admisable under the allegiance of Jesus? Hmmm...maybe they have this whole gay thing wrong too!

Jake Gyllenhaal: "Finding His Way Up 'Brokeback Mountain"

By Scott Huver, Hollywood.com Staff http://www.hollywood.com/movies/feature/id/3473442

This site interviews Jake on his recent movie and personal identifications of his perspective on the creation of this movie/script. I've added this peice in the Instrumental Mediators section becuase I believe it shows how Jake has inspired himself as his own personal mediator. This interview shows the importance of how Jake boldly took a controversial position in the American Hollywood film Industry in regards to the gay character role that im sure many people would not take. I believe taking that role alone helped him mediate his personal character to the public. This interview is instrumental in that it itself is not afraid to talk about the issues covered in the film.

"Why You'll Fall for Jake Gynllenhaal"
Issue Date: October 30, 2005, By Frappa Stout
USA Weekend Magazine online

This article talks about the importance and influence Jake's family and surrounding family friends influenced his carreer. His sister Maggie seems to have been of great importance as she herself is an important actress and both his father and mother were vital to his understanding of the film industry. Jake's father is a director as his mother is a screenwriter, both in Hollywood. The article also mentions his godmother, Jaimie Lee Curtis who, too, had an important influence on Jake's carreer passions.

Fans/Anti Fans Discourse:

Fan/Blog Site: perezhilton.com

Throughout this site many quick blogs that are submitted by men and women contain a strong inquisition to Jake's sexuality. I found these blogs on Perez Hilton's site, Hollywood's most current celebrity scenester who gets the juice on every major celebrity in the media and posts the latest gossip on his overnight blown up website. He starts his commentators out with a photo of Jake and another male that he suggest "Look Hot Together". This obviously gets the commentators focused on Jake's sexuality. The first blog I stopped at and will paste below begins as:

1.) "Oh god, I hope it's not true, Jake is way too hot. But these pics are starting to become more convincing...dammit, what a loss for us women".

2.) "Um.. I dont think there together.. And perez you only wish they were gay so you could have them... so sorry".

3.)" Jake's friend is HOT! Jake unfortuantely still looks like a lesbian"

4.) "Funny...I used to remember a time when it was Ok for friends to hang out..guess that time has passed..Its unbelievable that anybody goes anywhere with anyone of the same sex for fear of being labeled Gay! and I say fear, because if they were not afraid of being "Outed" they probebly would be more open about these so-called relationships".

5.) If he's gay or straight- it makes no difference... do any of us actually stand a chance?

6.) Perez get your homo mind out of the gutter. He is a hot available hetrosexual male. So back off. Tom Cruise will be avilable soon though!

7.)" Dear jakey, in case you read this site.
if its true and you like the penis, i'd like to be your "fag hag" please, with benefits.
things like drunk making out with you, and shopping.
thanks love er
p.s.
I won't do annoying things that girls do like whine and nag you".

8.) "LOL. I want to watch Jake get it up the ass too and I am a girl. Oooh baby"!

9.)"anyway, Jake isn't gay. Wishful thinking guys. He's into women only".

10.) "What a moron?? He/She´s the only sane person between all you celebrity obsessed idiots".

All of these comments/blogs were submitted by individuals who used perezhilton.com to publicly express their reactions to Perez's photo and comment on Jake being gay and that the looked hot with another man in the photo he used to do so.

In response to  # 1, 2, 3, 6, and 9 I would have to say that these blogsters are going way beyond the reality of the situation! These people each speak of Gyllnehaal as if they know him personally. I pretty sure they don't. Then again, I'd be just as ignorant to say they don't. At any rate, these people sound pretty ignorant. I think that when people respond to blog/fan sites in such a manner they show how infantile and starved for attention they are. Whether these people are either defending a celebrity's sexuality or stating their disappointment to the notion of this man actually being gay, they are doing a disservice to not only the celebrity, but other homosexuals out there, including the homosexual whose site this is. The girl in #1 says, " That she hopes that it isn't true that Jake is gay because it would be a loss to all women". Unfortunately, Jake probably isn't dating all women, nor would he consider dating all women. Secondly, this woman ignorantly calls the possibility of him being homosexual a loss? How is someone's personal sexuality a loss for anyone period? Take a pill sister...better yet...get some therapy...you really need to think about the fact that the world isn't here to strictly cater to you... and or only women's dating needs!

Blog #8 really is interesting and can been analyzed on many levels!!! She says that "she wants to see Jake get it up the ass and she's a girl"? Woe, GIRL THAT YOU ARE, is there something special about your being a female and wanting to see a dude mounted by another male? Don't be so naive, there are plenty of women who are turned on by homosexual activity...this is not superlative to your interest! Secondly, why are you the only one that is talking about watching Jake get it up the Ass? Sounds like a different website sweet heart. Last, but not least, Rock on with your Deviant self Sista!!!

Blog #7 is GREAT!! This girl is hoping Jake is reading this site! She asks him to be his "FAG HAG"! If anyone asked me to be my Fag Hag I'd probably Karate Chop em! Get a clue sassy pants.

Blog 4 and 5 are really the only well thought out comments on the site. They talk about how ridiculous it is to even talk about whether Jake is gay or not becuase A.) how the hell would anyone writing on a blog stand a chance with him and B.) why does it matter if he is gay and since when do 2 friends of the same sex have to worry about being accused of being homosexual, which isn't something they should have to worry about anyways because gay is what it is...NOT A BIG DEAL!

I've saved the best for last... Blog #10 which blatantly states that all the people on the site are "celebrity obsessed idiots" for wasting their time there period!

Overall, I think the comments all show a rising concern in our culture today, and that is whether it is or is not ok to be homosexual. This type of behavior is seen all over the gammut at large throughout our country..in politics, acedemia, media (TV, News, Magazines), ect. I think people make seriously mistaken suggestions and have warped perceptions of things when they are either confused personally or externally about a rising cultural transition. I enjoyed the blogs and welcome the ignorance that comes with such issues. To me, it means that at least the issue is begining to surface and hopefully will begin to make more sense to the "outsiders" of the situation of homosexuality. I know many homosexuals who would deeply appriciate a larger soceital understanding and acceptance of the community they are from which isn't necessarily welcomed in our Hyper Conservative culture. Kudos to Gyllenhaal, again, for taking on the role he did in
Brokeback Mountain, it is people such as he, who don't regard ignorance when deciding to publicly address an issue that is extremely controversial.
